timfythetooComment: Ah yes, how predictable. The photographic equivalent of a three year old girl pulling her dress over her head at a party or a three year old boy learning the word ‘poopie’ and repeating it ad nauseum...attention seeking and not funny.
To be honest I wish this was my only issue with this photo but it isn’t. My big problem is the fact that this encourages friends voting and therefore means that others who are not quite as active on the forums as you are will finish lower down in a challenge than they should. Any regular on DPC will recognise this as you and because there is – as with many clubs – a clique then you will get higher votes from your friends than this image deserves. Ultimately I believe that this sort of thing is one of the main reasons that some photographers choose not to enter competitions or to leave DPC entirely (I would also point out that you are not the only person who does this but in my opinion are by far the worst offender)
The funny thing is that when the last image of you didn’t garner high votes from everyone you indulged in some ‘soul searching’ in the forums. Were you surprised when your friends told you that it was a great photograph and very funny? Hmmmm I think the vast majority of people who thought it wasn’t probably kept quiet possibly for fear that they would incur the wrath of the in-crowd
I really don̢۪t know what is sadder
1. That you are actually a photographer with a lot of talent (certainly more technical skill than me) and if you expanded your boundaries rather than restricted yourself by them then you could GENUINELY (and not just through friend voting) be one of the exemplars on this site
2. That this was so utterly predictable. As soon as I saw the challenge last week I knew exactly what kind of photo you would post (although I am a little surprised that you failed to don your ‘hilarious’ tooth fairy outfit)
I have no doubt that this comment will bring about both a wave of ‘Timmy’ sympathy and a lot of flaming for me. Given this and the fact that this shot will score well for the reasons stated before you may well feel vindicated by this shot. Please don’t kid yourself this image is as good as it scores and do us (or at least me) a favour and vary your subject matter in the future. I am sure that if you do the results will be way way more impressive -as they have been in the past when you have avoided taking photos of subjects that can be immediately associated with you (and sorry I refute the argument that you don’t have many ‘models’ to choose from, because not every picture has to be of a person)
Finally – and this may be crossing the border between what is acceptable in a comment, which if it does then I do apologise for – This sort of picture suggests that you may have some fairly significant self esteem issues. If you ask a proper doctor about this sort of behaviour then they will tell you that it does not display self confidence in ones appearance but rather indicates a need for validation by trying to turn deficiencies into a joke and thus trying to deflect themselves from real issues of concern. This can have, in some cases, long term psychological impacts on a person and if this is the case with you then I would genuinely recommend trying to get some therapy or counselling to help you through this
