I like the thick border for this image, even though it leaves less "image" space to work with. The sky is gorgeous, and the sidewalk is beautifully composed in a nice S to pull the eye throughout the image. In addition, the trees on the left nicely keep the eye within the image. A simple image, but nice to look at and it would probably look great up on the wall.

I really like the framing of the water by the greenery. Not too sure I like the halo around the tops of the trees, but it does help add some depth between them and the mountains. Very nice sharpness to the mountains and a great, glassy reflection.

Under an Urban Moon

This is an interesting image, but one that proves the maxim that moving just an inch or two can sometimes make or break an image. The fact that the moon is tight against the edge of the wall--and slightly behind the barbed wire--seems to indicate that you wanted to include it in the image, but didn't consider how you wanted it composed. Moving a bit back and to the right would have brought the moon out into the open sky, making it more prominent. Or, you could have moved forward a bit, putting the moon behind the fence, which might be a personification of urban oppression (or some other theme).

The detail in the brick is nice in the bottom left corner. A bit of high pass sharpening might have really boosted the local contrast in this image.

There's one major aspect of this image that works, and that's timing. You've captured a moment at the perfect time.

However, there are many things that unfortunately work against my experience viewing this image. For one thing, the black stripe along the top makes it look like the bird is about to fly into a wall, and doesn't signify the "open skies" of being set free. You haven't utilized the maximum image size, which prevents the viewer from seeing a lot of detail. I'd love to see the expression on the face of the person letting go of the bird. Even the man and woman to the left might be good to include, too.

This is a nicely timed shot and very likely holds some emotional impact to you. From a technical standpoint, it seems to be oversharpened, to the point where the writing becomes a bit difficult to read (although it does help boost contrast and bring out the texture of the stone).

I like the composition of the girl and the flag, and the flag pole draws the eye nicely into the bee trail, which then draws the eye toward the name on the large plaque/tombstone. I can't quite tell if it's maybe just a shadow, but the selective desaturation looks messy in the bottom stripe of the flag.

Overall, a nice, emotional image.

I love the colour given to the sky and the extreme contrast between the "whites" of the trees and the dark water. Nice and crisp throughout. This likely would have been too busy or low in contrast in a regular image, so IR is probably a good choice here. Marbo was the first person I added to my favourites when I signed up on DPChallenge; I couldn't believe the incredible look of IR, which I had never seen before. After a while, they do tend to look a bit alike, but the composition here is still nice. Good job.

Very nice composition of the tree and waterfall. I love the detail in the bridge and the plants bordering on the sides. I can't help but wonder how this would look with some strong high pass sharpening.

Gorgeous sky and nice, glassy water. I like the contrast between the blues and the brown of the dock, and the slight warm tone in the highlights of the sky help to top everything off. The composition of the dock is good, too; it draws the eye on a nice diagonal toward the tree in the water and into the rest of the image.

Cool shot that looks good in black and white. New Orleans makes me think of "colourful", though, and I can't help but wonder what this looked like with the colourful feathers and outfits. Eliminating colour out of a picture reduces it to its tones only, so one has to be even more careful about composition, contrast, etc. I think this image is a bit too busy, and makes it difficult to take it all in. That can work sometimes, as it requires the viewer to analyze everything, but other times the viewer will just go on to the next image.

I might suggest a tighter crop on what you think is the most interesting aspect of the image, leaving the viewer to guess more as to what the rest of the event was all about.

Wow! From a nice, soft landscape shot to a close-up of a snake's face!

The lines are perfect, and have me searching all around the image looking at the different varieties of greens. The sharpness in the eye is perfect. Nice job.
