A ride for lifeby fyremanj1Comment: I like the idea you have here, but I can barely read the logo on the truck - better lighting would have gone a long way to help this photo. I like the flag against the blue sky - nice job. |

Hot set o' wheelsby MaverickComment: Great photo - love the b&w/yellow idea you have going on here. The skates look really used, which is nice in this challenge. The DOF is excellent. |

Northern Lobsterby KimInNBComment: Lots of comments about the "weird color" makes me wonder whether people realize that lobsters are greenish before they're cooked!! They turn red once they hit the boiling water.
The visibility was only about 8 feet on this dive, so there was a lot of particulate in the water that did alter the color, but it is a pretty good estimation of what the little guy looked like underwater - what I attempt in post-processing - not what he would have looked like crawling around on the beach.
The Northern Lobster is simply the name given to this species - another name is "American Lobster" but this guy was definitely a Canadian lobster (actually heard him say "eh")!! I laughed at the southern lobster comment (accent?) - but in all reality, you can tell the southern ones because they don't have large front pincers - just a couple more weeny little legs - and they're called "Spiny Lobsters."
This guy didn't attack me or the camera, but it has happened before - my dive buddy once poked at a lobster and the lobster took it out on me when I was shooting a video clip (it ended with the lobster flying at the camera). Another time, while taking a photo of a moonsnail, a lobster attached itself to my butt!! Pinched right through 7mm of neoprene and left a scratch where I sit!! OUCH!!! Sad thing is... we can't take them from the ocean ... it's illegal here!!! Message edited by author 2003-05-08 15:29:06. |

shooting down swirling rapidsby kenboComment: I think I would prefer this in color - things are blending together a bit here, and I think the sepia tone is the culprit. Interesting choice - very original. Love the movement that the water shows. |

Barkby KimInNBComment: Thanks for the comments, all!! I was none too happy to see a flora challenge when Spring really hadn't sprung.
After searching yards, this bark was about all I could find besides brown grass. Lighting wasn't great, but at least it wasn't raining (for once).
And, yes, I know it's only bark - of a maple tree - the only thing that made it through our winter in Atlantic Canada!!! |
