A great first entry with your Canon. The low down angle of view works well. Nice clean, uncluttered background. IMO it should have scored higher.

It looks like this picture was lit by daylight from a window from behind the rose, which has placed the rose in the shadow. Not very easy to do when photographing close to a window, but the lighting would have been better if the picture was taken from the other side, with the window behind you. Try moving further into the room. In my opinion a sheet of coloured card would have made a better background.
