High Temperatures and Spring Rain Flood Valley Floorby cools98Comment: This one is an excellent photo, would look great framed and on a wall.
It doesn't say "journalism" to me though, without the title. In my opinion, the title shouldn't really be an important part of the shot or try to explain what it is depicting. |

Anti-War Protest Draws 100's To Taos Plazaby SammieComment: This one sort of makes me go, "So?"
There's a lot of "things" in the shot, but no real point of interest. A way it could've been great was focused in tight on mainly one person - perhaps someone very passionate about the subject and in mid-yell about something. I'd like to see better focus - the guy right in the middle in the gray shirt is blurred a tad to my eyes. |

Down by Three...by DanielCzajaComment: Hmmm, this one is tough for me to call. It looks very journalistic - even like you ripped it right out of the sports section.
But, it isn't that interesting or intriguing as a photo. Who is the guy, the coach, a fan, a suspended or injured player? I'm not sure what would make it better for me, something is needed to pump up the intrigue a little bit. |

Pride of Baltimore II Returns to Harbor After 9 Months at Seaby admart01Comment: This is another one I'd call an almost. The subject is interesting, it looks like something that could be in the local papers, but it lacks a bit technically. The sign and the steam in the BG are a bit too prominent, taking away from the main subject. The ship could use a bit better focus - perhaps you were shooting from very far away? I'd also prefer (though you may not have been able to do anything about it) that the fireboat was not in the frame at all. |

Homelessness on Rise Among Womenby aberrationComment: This one to me is an "almost". It's a poignant subject and looks like something we'd see in an article in the paper or a magazine.
However, it seems to lack a little focus and the washed out colors don't do it for me. Don't know if the colors were done that way on purpose, but they aren't my fave.
(at first I thought the cup and taped up bottle over her shoulder were lenses and I was going to ding you for setting up the shot and not using very good props!! ;-) ) |

ELLEby unicumComment: I'm wavering on this one between I really like it and it bothers me. Perhaps that's a sign of a good journalistic shot. I think it is because her right eye is the sharpest point of focus and it seems to be following me, creeping me out a tiny bit! It does look like something we'd see in a fashion mag, but I think that single point of focus needs to be massaged just a bit. |

Error Avertedby SandmanComment: Good capture of the action and good balance of technically nice shot w/ journalistic quality.
(p.s. - hey #32, you're supposed to keep your eyes on the BALL!) |

Elegant Bride Magazineby ibkcComment: Pretty good. I might prefer to see the BG done differently. As is, the colors and lines of the BG take away a little bit from the subject. Perhaps if the DOF made the BG out of focus it wouldn't be so noticeable.
(Looks like she needs some ironing, but that's not part of my comments on the shot for the challenge) |
