Vendettaby LelezComment: This is surreal (the butterfly!) and awesome. The Xs for eyes make it. |

Pothead and Mellow Yellow Get Ducked Upby HipychikComment: This... oh Lord. I laughed until I coughed. Then I laughed, wheezily, until I coughed some more. Then I decided that I would have to vote this challenge after all so that I could give this photo a ten. |

2011 week 1 - sunshine after rainby rachelellenComment: Originally posted by bspurgeon: surprised at the lack of snow, so near Yosemite...East or West Sierra foothills? |
West, at about 2300 feet in elevation. Generally speaking, there isn't lasting snow in the 140 corridor (140 is the highway that takes you directly into Yosemite Valley without going up and over in one direction or another) until you get into the Valley itself -- and even there, there are frequently periods in the winter when the snow is patchy at best. You have to get up above 5000 feet or so to have steady snow all winter, generally speaking. The Valley floor is at about 4000. |

Self Rescuing Maidenby KristinaGComment: I haven't been around DPC in a long time, and I almost never comment on anything anymore, but I had to pop my head up to say that I LOVE THIS PICTURE. Wish I'd voted this challenge; you'd have had 15 10s.
This makes me think a little of the Newbery-winning book *The Hero and the Crown* by Robin McKinley. :) Have you read it? |

Children of the Cornby oskarakComment: ohh, I hope you don't get blasted by Americans who don't know that in the UK you call all field grains corn. Our corn is only your maize.
Great shot! Love the DOF and bokeh. |
