artificial light widthrawalby rjlacsonComment: I noticed this image immediately on the thumbnails page. Very catchy, well done, good use of lighting, nice choice of model and props. I like it (can you tell?). I might have (just might have, I'd have to see it done) liked a bit more depth of field on the light, to bring some of it into clear focus where it meets the model's face. Also, the extra white dot in the sunglasses is distracting. I know I'm being picky, but with shots like this one, that's all that's left to do. |

"Granite Circles"by ThaiComment: Interesting pattern, well photographed, but I would have liked to have seen either an intentional "skewing" of the lines toward a diagonal, or a more precise shot that aligned the pattern in a perfectly straight way. The slight leftward shift as you move down the image is perceptable here, and doesn't look to me to have been intended. |

You eat it Dr. Mandelbrot ...by thegrandwazooComment: Really nice image, both technically and in terms of subject matter. Good use of focus (I'm not sure I could have avoided the temptation to use a more limited depth of field here, but I'm really glad you didn't). The stark background makes it; anything distracting it the background would have really hurt the image, I think. |

Patterns patterns everywhereby RevoltComment: Nice image, good use of depth of field to bring a large portion of the image into focus and emphasizing the depth of the pattern itself. |

sky-beamsby smurfguyComment: The angle of this shot throws me a bit, and the contrast with the sky isn't enough for me, though I like the brighter sky to the right-hand of the image, this is mostly lost given the grey that makes up the background sky to the rest of the image. Increased contrast would have improved this, I think, along with a bit of sharpening to heighten the contrast even more. |

Mandatory Paper Shotby shonaComment: It may be mandatory, but it's a nice shot, well done, with good use of lighting and shading. I like the white sheet covering the whole lower right corner, it adds impact to the shot. |

scared of patternsby j_nusratComment: Neat image with a nice title, though keeping the background building in focus may have emphasized the pattern a bit more. |

Tunnelingby pennylaneComment: Nice image, good use of depth of field, and nice contrast between the lighter, out-of-focus foreground and the darker, inner, sharply focused tube. I think I might have cropped it so that the end of the tube itself was a bit more to the left or the right (probably left, as that's the way it's bending). But that's just what I would have done! |

the gotan projectby boysetsfireComment: I like this shot, the juxtaposition of the pattern against the rest of the image (which of course has other patterns in it, too, such as the walkway), but the lack of a clear focus on any one (or greater) spot on the pattern bothers me just a bit. |

Taxiesby gjumiComment: Nice image, though the overexposed taxi lights don't work for me and detract from the impact of the image as a whole. A bit brighter, with perhaps a bit more contrast would have worked for me, though I like the choice of black and white, and also the long horizontal proportions of the photo. |
