Spin on Nikon

For those who were asking basically shot this on the spur of the moment, at the house with a couple of black scrim boards for the background (didn't have all the supplies at the house...oops), found the darkest room I could work in and shot it there.

Setup was simple: D70, SB-800, sync cord, tripod and another pair of hands to handle the spinning of the cap (flicked like a quarter). D70 set to 1 sec exposure F6.3 to keep things in the parameters for the SB-800 in Strobe Repeat mode. SB set at 1/64 and 10 strobes per second. Wife would spin the cap, if it looked like it would be in the frame, I'd fire the camera...again, and again, and again.... Sync corded the SB so I could place the light to get best reflection from the cap logo, tripod just helped keep everything steady.

Exposure problems abounded, trying to get a nice reflection of the logo without killing the strobed effect was quite interesting. I'm guessing this is where those that seemed to find "lack of contrast" are complaining...exposure, histogram, and leveling dictate otherwise as it's tip to tip on the scale, just indicative of this type of exposure effect without some decent post work.

If I had the chance to do it over, would have found some nicer materials to use for the background, maybe add plexi for reflection. Probably could have salvaged the BG in post, but it was a basic editing challenge.

Thanks for all the helpful comments!!!
