Hi Anona :)
FIRST IMPRESSION:
nice...but that border's gotta go
COMPOSITION:
Wonderful composition. I think you should have left it w/out a border, it is way to harsh and distracts from the subject. :)
TECHNICAL:
lighting is great. I like your selective DOF. nice sharp focus on the flag...great job :)
ARTISTIC:
It's just another flag shot...i think that's why you finished 38th. I'm sure you realize that this is an international website, and with what's going on in the world you might lose points for a shot of an american flag...it's just reality.
Interesting how jmsetzler jumped to the conclusion that you were going to get 'nasty remarks' when in fact you got NONE... :)
Cheers and good luck in the future challenges. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Ca va Nathalie :) got your picture again...geez :)
FIRST IMPRESSION:
Very colourful!
COMPOSITION:
Not much to say about it. Maybe hiding 'waldo' a bit would have made it more interesting, like under a couple of the other corns :)
TECHNICAL:
Nice job in getting the colours to stand out. your lighting is nice and even. The focus is a bit soft...I wonder if you had a bit of a camera shake with that exposure length(?). :|
ARTISTIC:
Nicely done. I really like the colours. I'm sure you know that some people looked at your shot and thought "geez, another cluttered frame to look at!"...and maybe that's why you got so many 5's (i gave you a 6) :)

Hi John :)
FIRST IMPRESSION:
Real cool shot...love it :)
COMPOSITION:
Very nice, IMO. The only thing that bugs me is the shawdow on the bottom. I think that if you had moved to the right a bit, and shot at a lower angle you could have made that shadow less predominant...but then again, you are the one who really knows what the environment was like :)
TECHNICAL:
Lighting if very nice, exposed right, IMO. Focus could be a bit sharper (even post-processing)..nice job :)
ARTISTIC:
Real cool idea. I think you nailed the challenge right on the head with this one. :)

Hi David :)
FIRST IMPRESSION:
Cool perspective, out of focus
COMPOSITION:
I like the setup of this shot. You really did capture an interesting perspective. I like how all sides lead to the light right in the middle. This shows how a shot can work even if centered, IMO. :)
TECHNICAL:
This is where I think you lost most of the votes. The lightingis tricky to get right cause your foreground is fairly dark, but the background if very bright. I'm not sure how you'd shoot this to get the right exposure all around...maybe with a flash to compensate for the dark inside. Also the focus is very soft, I think sharp focus would have helped you alot. :(
ARTISTIC:
I think the shot is quite interesting even if technically weak. Sure meets the challenge :)
Cheers and good luck in the future challenges. |

Hi Luis
FIRST IMPRESSION:
What a beauty, eh
COMPOSITION:
Great, IMO. I think that if you had given it a bit more room on the right, it could have worked a bit better. Love how you left a hint of the ground on the bottom . nice use of the rule of thirds, placing 'waldo' right on the bottom right intersection. :)
TECHNICAL:
Well, you did it all right (lighting/focus/dof), I have the S30 as well, and I don't think I've ever managed to get such a sky under low lighting. Would be interested in knowing what you did in post-processing. :)
ARTISTIC:
Simply an amazing photo to look at. The sky colours are overwhelming. Defenitaly meets the challenge...great job and congrats on a well deserved 2nd (i had you as the top photo, but hey, second ain't bad) :)

edit-> and just for fun, if you could spot-edit, what would you have done? Maybe you can do it and post it up somewhere...PM me and let me know. Message edited by author 2003-02-21 00:23:53. |
