I know about the rotation; this was a candid 'blind shot'. Since I did not want to get the attention of the people in the picture, I almost incidentally pointed my camera (the Ricoh does not really look like a camera), while I looked the other way. You may understand my horror, when I later realized that the man on the left was not fully enclosed in the picture. He lost even more of his figure when I had to crop the original to reduce some tilt.
All in all I think this captured the spirit 'blue' very nicely. They were sitting outside the police station, I didn't understand what went on inside.

(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) - Almost excellent. You just needed to rotate a little to the left to include the whole man, not half. But you donât want to lose the door on the right.
(2) BACKGROUND â Well done. I like the simple light colored wall, with the door on the right.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL âVery good focus & DOF. Lighting gives a blue mood to the left side.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL â very good. No changes to recommend.
(5) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO â I like this better than most did. I like the simplicity, and the âblue moodâ coupled with the blue clothes worn by the men. I think if you had captured the whole body on the left, you would have scored much better.

| 10/28/2002 10:13:00 AM | Hi-Key Portraitby johnmkComment: Thank you all for your friendly comments. This past week has been a boost for my ego as a photographer, watching the cheers and good marks coming in. I did not try to make a 'glossy' picture that would please everyone, so I am really pleased with the way things turned out. Thanks again. |

| 09/04/2002 11:36:00 AM | Dreaming of me...by fsieradzkiComment: Sneaky rather than candid. She is asleep and the light and camera are just not fair. The motto is presumptuous. This is all interpretation. Technically it is a very nice picture, the highlight might have been slightly lower. |

In the original picture that may have been a good point, but down at 640x480 it is getting blurred. In short the picture is lacking focus on a particular point; the person that has been photographed candidly does not evoke an emotion, since we cannot see what she is relating to in particular. Technically the picture is OK, lighting, focus, but that is not what makes a good picture, it is only a starting point. |

| 09/02/2002 01:47:00 PM | Candidby pnichollsComment: What is Anthony staring at and what is he staring from (what does the prominent background mean?). Composition-wise this picture is OK, but as a viewer it leaves me highly dissatisfied. It is candid, OK, but so what? The image-culture used is not universal, therefore I have the feeling that this picture is speaking only to the knowing (USA?), leaving 99% or so of the World's population in the dark. That is OK if you want to address the 1%, but I happen to belong to the other 99%. |
