Smiling to victory by arnitComment: This to me is real front page stuff - well framed and with the splashing water frozen nicely. Slightly noisy image (especially visible on the Omega board in the background) but it doesn't really detract from the shot. Nice! |

Firemen on Picket Lineby DazzermasComment: Would have worked better for me if you'd got closer in, so we could see the expressions on their faces properly. There's too much dead space to have that "front page" impact. |

The Face of American Resolveby TurbotechComment: I do like this, but to me it's a touch underexposed. The visor on the hat throws a shadow over his eyes that's just too deep, so we're left with half an eye. I either want to see his eye properly, or not at all. Hard to explain... |

Monday Morning Traffic @ Heathrow!by robconComment: On another challenge I'm not sure I'd rank this so highly - I'm not too keen on the framing (although I can't decide how I would have cropped it better!) but it does exactly what a front page picture has to do - tells a story - and it tells it well. Cracking stuff! |

Mayan Mysteriesby lykofosComment: I've no idea what I'm looking at, and your flash is too strong on the foreground - but I do like that effect on the water... |

Bright Ideaby gandersComment: To those of you who commented on the focus, I agree entirely! That's the trouble with taking the shots on Sunday evening, I spent ages trying to get it right and this was the best shot I managed. The problem was, I had to tilt the bulb steeply forward, to throw the reflection of the element out of shot. As it was only lit by the bulb itself, dimmed as far as I could, the aperture was wide open and shortened my DOF even more. What I SHOULD have done is switched over to manual and closed down that aperture as far as I could, but of course I came to that conclusion on the Monday!! Thanks all for your comments and the surprisingly high placing - I shall try and better it for the next challenge!! |
