| 08/26/2002 09:08:00 AM | Just A Blurry Memoryby sylkComment: Interesting but B&W photo is out of focus. I would have prefered the opposite, bringing the viewer's attention to the past rather than the present. Also, B&W photo is wonky, but am I being too fussy now? God idea. |
| 08/27/2002 01:53:00 AM | Play time is over by Frank BeckmanComment: Wow! Beautiful sky! I think the silhouettes should have been restricted to the basketball ring and trees (as the bars are uneccessary and clutter the view). I like this photo because of the sky, but it does not say much to me about my own childhood (probably my problem because I hardly played basketball at all when I was young). Overall, I think you've done a good job, so well done. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/26/2002 10:46:00 PM | The doors really *aren't* welded shut...by cdcComment: Yeeee-haaah! Is there a reason for so many cars, trees and people in the photo? Surely, your subject is the General Lee (and possibly adults re-living their childhood passion) so I feel there are too many distractions in this photo. Perhaps it was not possible to get a snap of a General Lee alone, or perhaps just a snap of part of the car's side (showing 01 & G. Lee). How about an adult's expression as he/she gazes at the G. Lee? However, this photo genertaed some positive memories of my childhood so, according to my voting standard, your photo received a fairly decent mark. And overall, positive memories = smiles = thanks to you! |
| 08/27/2002 01:32:00 AM | A Childish Fear of the Darkby MelGrahmComment: Congratulations on a great idea! This photo is good because it reminds me of fears I had when I was a child. However, only one hand's shadow is clearly defined and I feel there is too much bed in the photo. I don't know why, but that cuddly toy just seems out of place in this scene (despite it being very appropriate). Could you have done this all in shadows? How about the shadow of a bed corner, the boy clutching a teady-bear and gazing at the hands? I think this would score higher points with me. Nevertheless, I really like this photo for the feelings and also for the creativity. Well done. |
| 08/26/2002 03:07:00 AM | Girls Only !by ShiiizzzamComment: I feel that if you left the door ajar somewhat, it may have added more interest to the photo. I don't know what I would have liked to see past the door - perhaps a slight glimpse of a toy. Overall, I like this photo. |
| 08/26/2002 10:53:00 PM | Saturday Morningby MarkRobComment: Ugh! Coke & cereal! Good idea and quite effective - I think most people can relate to the cartoons & cereal theme. Could you have eliminated the white spot on the tv screen? How about spilt milk (I had a habit of doing that)? And by the way, what cereal is that? I don't think we have that in the UK! |
| 08/27/2002 02:00:00 AM | Jacksby CowgirlComment: I am not sure what Jacks is all about (we didn't have them in the UK when I was young). I think your photo depicts a happy childhood, which is somewhat too rosy for my liking. However, the photo is nice and appropriate (playing jacks in the back garden?). The focus seems a little soft to me, perhaps a shorter depth of field (can you say shorter???) would have drawn more attention to the Jacks. Overall, I like this photo. Well done. |

| 08/26/2002 11:03:00 PM | Cageby johnmkComment: I am not sure how to relate to this photo, perhaps it is too personal to you. It doesn't make me feel anything (positive or negative) about childhood. On second thoughts, is the open baby gate supposed to represent an adult (who once was a child) leaving home? At least you made an effort to create a photo with feeling rather than a snap of a teddy-bear, so full marks in that respect. This is not an easy thing to do (and I speak from experience) and perhaps the lack of feeling is due to my lack of vision / imagination... I don't know. However, Ido feel that it is the photographer's responsibility to invoke some feelings / reaction to the photo (as opposed to expecting the viewer to think hard and imagine all the possible tangents). You may not agree with me, this is just my opinion. |
