Aside from there being nothing temporally distinct about flowers (unless these are the kind that only bloom once a century), the petals are overexposed and the background grass looks noisy, like your depth of field wasn't shallow enough.

Thank you all for all the kind comments. I had fun setting up this photo and using my actual breakfast for the shot (although, since I'm not a coffee drinker, the mug is actually filled with Diet Coke). I'm quite happy with how this placed among the other 500+ photographs given the rather unexciting nature of the picture. I was just hoping to get a few laughs from the people who don't really wake up until after noon. Judging from the scores of commentators, I succeeded.

Even if it was necessary, it's still unfortunate what use of the flash did to the picture (too much reflection off the beak). Great picture otherwise.

The gray border outside the black border is weird. They eye normally stops at a black border, but the gray outside it tempts the eye to spill outside the photograph.

I would say crop closer to the main action, but your picture already looks pixelated, so I guess you already had to enlarge this crop.
