Escaping the chaos of 'brownian motion'

Escaping the chaos of 'brownian motion'
by pffree

Comment:
This is certainly a very interesting effect which meets the challenge well - provided you know what brownian motion is of course (or like me, you can use google!). Nice choice of colours and the fall off in the blue/white section I find particularly appealing. The yellows are looking a bit dirty in places though but I guess I can't have everything!

I think the only area this picture falls down in is that, although the subject matter is interesting, this effect is quite abstract and that for some is an aquired taste. 7 from me.

There's a lot to like about this photo - the colours, the chemical process which is going on, and the composition are all stellar.

I'm not too sure that in this case, the sum is better than each of its parts though - theres something missing here, and I think its a lack of interest to keep my attention on the photo. 6.

Theres plenty to look at in this shot and its clear you've spent some time thinking about composition. Not being a Kentucky resident (or it could just be because I'm a bit slow!) I'm not sure how exactly the title relates to this shot.. my mind is boggling thinking about it! It looks like water and ice which isn't the most exotic choice of subject matter and with that in mind I have scored this down a little because I dont know how it relates to the challenge - 5.

Nice sharp subject matter offset against beautiful bokeh - its a winning formula. The colours work and look good and also help to focus attention on the subject matter. I'm not sure this screams 'Chemistry' but there is of course a link there, overall I think its an interesting photo and I gave it a 7.

Lots going on in this shot, and a lot of interesting colours and objects. It's a feast for the eyes but I think that also works against it too. There's just too much to look at. If you had perhaps isolated one or two objects I think this would have worked better. For example the flame in the foreground with the liquid vials in the background and a bit blurred. I've given this one a 5.

The immediate feeling this shot evokes is 'eurgh!' and with the right choice of subject matter that feeling could have been used well to convey your message. But pink is a pretty, clean kind of colour and I'm not sure it goes well with the dirty looking background - a green liquid might have been better. Depth of field is a little on the shallow side and a bightness bump might have helped. Interesting shot but its not holding my attention enough - overall 4.

This is a nice shot which really holds interest. The liquid is frozen brilliantly, the subject obviously meets the Chemistry element of the challenge, the different colours work well and the look of intense concentration on the girls face all add a lot to this picture. A couple of technical bits which put me off slightly are the blown highlights and the background which drew my attention trying to figure out what it was. Overall 6.

I've spent some time looking at this shot but I can't quite figure out what is going on here. Is it a glass vial with liquid in? Is that a contact lens case or something? I can't quite interpret it. The lighting is good and has a mysterious feel to it, and the black background focuses attention in on the object and hand. The bottom of the vial thing is cut off though and I've scored this down some because of the technical problems with the shot. Overall 3.

The blue cast is an interesting choice, and the chemistry subject is of course very obvious in this shot. I'm not too keen on the square crop, as I think there needs to be a reason to crop square from a creative perspective in order for it to work properly. Ideally, the bottle on the left should have been more visible as my eye is drawn to it to try to work out what the writing/bottle is. Overall 6.

Dramatic lighting and nice use of sepia toning (ie not overdone!), subjects are isolated through good use of depth of field. The cluttered feeling to the left makes me a little uncomfortable, but overall I think this is a solid entry - 7.
