This is an interesting idea for a submission but there are a couple of things that let it down. First of all there's a clear lack of detail, especially in the rings of the onion. I'm not sure if this is your camera or your post processing. The second thing is that although your lighting is good there are strong green shadows. This gives me the impression that either your white balancing is off or your post processing has been too harsh.

This is a shot I think would be worth re-shooting at some point.

I scored this as an 8. It's well taken and the B&W conversion is good. If there is a problem it's that there isn't an identifiable subject for the eye to rest on. My eye hunts around the image but never really stops anywhere. Your scene is well framed, though and at no point is my eye led out of the image.

Thanks for all the kind comments. This wasn't shot specially for the challenge - I happened to be at a family get together that weekend and decided to take an afternoon shooting the seaside. This was my favourite of the day.

I have since re-done the B&W conversion on this image and controlled the highlights and lowlights in the sky much better. I'll use the better version for prints.

A lovely scene but too dark and not sharp enough. A real pity too because with just a little more work this would be a winner. 5

There's nothing in this picture to really look at. It's a jumble of ill focused twigs and branches that gives the eye nowhere to start. I would have preferred if you'd found some detail in the branches to focus on. Something interesting to the eye that gave me a starting point for the image. 5

Just a little more sharpening perhaps to bring up the detail there. Nice idea. 6

Looks great all over except for the few branches in the top left that are closer to the camera. Those look dim and unlit as well as unsharp. It's a shame because the rest of the image is just beautiful. 8

Another where's waldo entry? Great shot of a dramatic scene. But it feels like a few more moments and that large central cloud might roll out of scene and improve the light immesurably. 8

Your scene is in shadow. Re-shooting this when the sun was in a better location would have helped hugely. Good choice of subject, though. 6
