Searching for an Audienceby lousy_beatnikComment: Oh, I just love a challenge.
I've seen this place twice before, once entered into a challenge, I don't remember which one. I did comment on it then. However.....
Firstly, it works well in B&W, a little overblown in the ceilinng but.....
Its a litter tilted down to the left, I don't like that. I like the frame and the darkening of the inside border, it draws the interest towards the centre, where it should be.
OK, now for the artistic side of things...
A excellent viewpoint, the face in poster is very dramatic and dominating both in stature and in expression, gives a feeling of him being in control of the scene rather than the photographer. A big "Big Brother" ish.
Obviously a shopping mall, would have been better without the people, has a futuristic feel, given the architechture.
Emptyness while being whatched would have been better I feel.
That's it for now...

Sea terminusby bpickardComment: This is a beautiful shot, I can almost feel those stones underfoot. The colour and texture is wondeerful, the low viewpoint brings that out. The composition is spot on, obviously.
I really like the colour of the sky which is reciprocated by the water, must have been a lot of work to get the join right. The contrast in the clouds is perhaps a little overdone but it adds to the dramatic feel of the shot.
A really great shot, one I would be proud of.
(Edited to add this)
PS.
I think some of the other comenters are missing the point a bit. They seem to be taking it a bit too literaly. Accept the image as it stands not how you would have done it. Its a slightly surreal image, kind of half way between abstract and purist. Its not meant to be a photo record of how the scene actually looked, rather the photographers interpretation of it. 7 at 7by KylieComment: Kylie, this is a cracking image!
I didn't vote in the challenge, though I did look through the entries, (quickly) and I remember seeing this one. It stuck in my mind.
The contrasting colurs are great, the yellow on the orangy red of the wall, did you manipulate the colours much, at all?
The shadows caused by the blinds are magnificent, they add depth and a feeling of being there, they somehow make it so real.
The subject itself is quite interesting and that's the key for me, take an interesting subject and add dramatic lighting, shoot from a interesting, original, different angle and you end up with something like this. I know its not automated like that but that's how I disect it.
I just hope you remember me, and invite me to the opening night at your gallery! |

Sun & Moonby KylieComment: This is my favorite, except for the table cloth with the fruit being in focus so strongly, it takes the emphasis away from the main subject a little.
Your entry in the challenge was perhaps better than this because it is more abstract. But composisionaly this one is better for me, just a personal choice I guess. |

Rageby SDWComment: Its not technically excellent but, what's that got to do with it?
I doubt that you ever thought his would win any medals. Its what it does for you and others that counts. Water is one of my favorite subjects and I'm forever trying to capture how it makes me feel. This comes pretty close I can tell you.
Pictures like this make it worthwhile. |

One Inch All Appleby KylieComment: This I feel is different from so much of your other work. Why is that? Is it a recent addidtion or earier work? Either way I love it. The effect on the apple is almost painted but just holds off enough. Is this the same technique as the Rose abstract image that was commented on for having noise? The border / background is amazing, its such a contrast but works well for me. You really do have artistic talent, a natural talent. More please.... |

Treesby KylieComment: Missed this in my mini review. As I said trees are of of my favorites and this shows you why. Excellent lighting, captures a nice light airy feel and the detail is wonderful. |

Looking Glassby KylieComment: You really have some good ideas with everyday opbjects. I like the angle which means the glass is not just stood centrally in the frame. Might have cropped a bit more from the left. |
