Cross into the blueby
JasonComment: I had hoped to pick a subject that was well known all over the world since DPChallenge.com has such a large audience. This in itself is a hard challenge because you could never know what everyone's past experiences are.
The picture is of the United States Air Force's demonstration team called the 'Thunderbirds'. Since 1953, they have flown in countless Air Shows all over the world performing in front of billions of people. This is why I thought that they would make a good subject.
The title "Cross into the blue" is the recruitment slogan for the U.S. Air Force.
The below Snippet is taken directly from the 'Thunderbirds' fact sheet:

The U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, "Thunderbirds," perform precision aerial maneuvers to exhibit the capabilities of modern high-performance aircraft to people throughout the world. The squadron exhibits the professional qualities of Air Force people who fly, maintain and support these aircraft.
The squadron objectives are:
To support U.S. Air Force recruiting and retention programs
To reinforce public confidence in the Air Force and demonstrate to the public the professional competence of Air Force personnel
To strengthen morale and esprit de corps among Air Force personnel
To support Air Force community relations and people-to-people programs
To represent the United States and its armed forces to foreign nations and project international goodwill

In other words or at least in this application ... propaganda.
The border was applied to further portray the patriotic nature of the squadron. The border resembles the red, white and blue found on the wing tips of the aircraft.
I could not show any more sky at the bottom than what is already shown. From the original, I measured the very tip of the plane to the top of the frame; I then took that same amount and cropped the left and right side the same distance from the nearest part of the plane on that side. So left, right and top are cropped exactly the same space.
I hope it makes a bit more sense now. I didn't want to explain anything until after the challenge because I wanted the picture to stand 'as is', and to see the comments from those that did not recognize them.
