| 11/18/2005 09:22:11 PM | A Lizards Homeby mandradeComment: Woah! Almost didn't see him there, nice camouflage little lizard. And what an angry looking lizard he is, LOL! It's funny how their eyes work, one looks like it's looking directly at you while the other is looking off to the right. :) I love that about lizards. Well, first, you get an extra point for using an animal, an unusual one at that. I like the focus on the lizard and the use of DOF, the lighting is also well done, though there is a bit of a glare on his back area. The plant on the right doesn't do much for me, could have cropped that in a just a bit for my taste. An 8 (remember you got an extra point for the lizard! :) Go feed him!) |
| 11/18/2005 09:19:48 PM | i bought this cat to match my tilesby TatiComment: Awwwwwwwwwwww, you get an extra point just cuz this kitty is so cute! I love animal shots and all get one extra point from me! ;)
This is a nice shot but nothing about it really jumps out at me and says, "WOW!" If you could have gotten the cat to look at you or been down a little closer to the floor so you not looking above him. Also the flash on this is a bit direct, if you could have diffused it a bit that would have been even better. He does match the floor a bit but still stands out. :) A 6 |
| 11/18/2005 09:18:03 PM | Lilly leaf-hopperby beafliesComment: Wow! Nice capture, just flat ot nice! The way the leaf hopper blends in is a perfect example of natural camouflage! I like the way this was focused, even though the leaf Hopper wasn't razor sharp he/she (how would you be able to tell?) is the main focus. The color seems just a bit dull overall but it works with this particular picture. My one problem with the shot is the pollen stem in the lower right corner. It works with the picture, just not sure you needed that much of it in there. An 8 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/17/2005 04:38:28 PM | Shhh! Don't move a feather... He'll never see us...by aronya1Comment: Hahaha, this makes me smile. I love Macaws, they are so personalble and sweet yet at the same time like having a 3 year old forever, LOL:)
This is a wonderful shot, as far as meeting the challenge, that's a bit of a push IMO, so we will so strictly on the shot itself. I like the composure of the shot, and even though the branch is leaning from one side to the other, a little pet peeve that might normally drive me bonkers, ;-), it works for this shot because the wing also leads right up. The expression in their eyes is wonderful and the lighting is well done. That branch looks like it's ready to break though, should be interesting when it does! THe colors are also great but could take just a tweak to really make them pop out at you, these birds are so colorful in real life and it's hard to express that on screen at times. The crop on the sides works well since each bird had a little bit of feather cut off so overall, very nicely done, a 7 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 11/17/2005 09:31:59 AM | Stripedby sarrobiComment: Okay, I'm gettng dizzy here looking at this. Are these spinning or is it just me? WELL DONE!!!! Il ike this idea, the execution of the idea and hiding that candy cane in there is perfect for this, giving the eye a little bit of a break just when it needed it because honestly if I had to look at just the mints, I wouldn't be able to handle it for very long, LOL :)
The colors are spot on as they say but the light seems just a tad, a tiny smidgen harsh where it spotlights off the candy. The orientation of the shot also seems off just a bit, almost too straight for this, if you are going to mess with my eyes, rotate the picture just a bit more so that I'm brought in one side and falling out the other by following the trail of candy. | 11/17/2005 09:29:02 AM | In Liberty's clothesby srugoloComment: Hey, you almost got me, I had to look twice to see it wasn't the actual Statue of Liberty, LOL! Welld one!
I'm getting the feeling there is a double meaning to this shot but I'm not going to get into that discussion, instead I'll just comment on the photograph itself.
First, BRAVO! Great idea, nice concept and excellent overall composition of the shot. I like the use of the color on this one, the cold, forbidding blue and the way 'Lady Liberty' has her back turned to the camera really accents that color choice. The use of grain is also a bonus on this one. I normally hate grainy shots but this one works and works well. The cropping seems a tad off for some reason, maybe if it was just a touch tighter on the top so the torch is closer to the edge? Then to me you would have two exits on the shot, bringing them in on the right with the 'crown' and they can be lead out on the other side of the crown or the torch if the crop on top was tighter. | 11/17/2005 09:25:12 AM | Fall Foilageby AkashaComment: Well, yes, they are used for camouflage but I don't see that they are currently being used for that purpose. And they are fake ones also, right? No points off for that, it's just that I could tell from the way the light is hitting some of the leaves and the little nobbin thing on the lower right side.
As for the picture, yes, very nice, good overall composition and interesting use of the light. I like the shadows and light but on the right side it's just a tad too bright on the one leave, almost a blow out light but the rest is very nice. The material of the leaves make if feel like the entire shot has a soft focus to it and it does work in this instance, normally I'm not a big fan of soft focus unless it really works with the photo and in your case I personally feel it does. I would like not to see that nobbin over on the right side, it probably wouldn't be that noticable except for the bright light right by it. End result, a 7 :) |
| 11/17/2005 04:08:01 AM | Sunset Over Manuel Antonio 02by RgarciaComment: This is a very nice, serene shot but is lacking that POP factor, something that would really make it stand out in the crowd. Maybe if you played with the saturation or levels or curves to really make the sky stand out more? You have this totally black base but the top doesn't really stand out. But the composition is very well done.

| 11/17/2005 04:05:55 AM | Male Nudeby RgarciaComment: Okay, I just got the chills thinking of that poor man working his way out to that branch and laying on it. The things people will do for a great shot! LOL!
This is very well done, artistic, creative and tasteful. Not easy to do with full frontal nudity on male or female but this was successuf in that endeavor. Well done!

| 11/17/2005 04:01:03 AM | Cold Morningby JadeleeComment: Wow, and you are only 5? Are you sure you're only 5? This is a wonderful overall shot and your parents have every right to be proud of you for this. Hope you don't mind, but I would like to make just a few suggestions in case you decide to enter again. You obviously already have a very good eye for the way the shot should look now comes the fun part of seeing everything that is in the shot and how it can affect the overall picture. There are just a two things that jumped out at me when I looked at this, first was the tilt in the horizon. Mom or Dad can help you with this when you work on your picture afterwards, you can crop it and rotate the picture just a tiny bit so it's all nice and even and you won't lose much of what's around the edges. And the other thing was that green bottle > in the lower part. Hard to tell what it is since it's so fuzzy but it is a bit distracting, nothing major though. Actually nothing really wrong with the entire shot, you did really well and you should be very proud. The colors are very nice, good composition (the way it's set up) and very nice, serene setting.
Now, go tell Mommy and Daddy to buy you a nice DSLR camera for Christmas and teach you how to use the editing tools all by yourself! :) Hope to see you around in future challenges!
