Lonely Ladyby pedrobopComment by silverfoxx: i like it a lot! the idea, the subtle hdr - perfect and not over-the-top. i think though the image would benifit a bit more from a slightly different lighting. maybe more dramatic? if for example only the middle with the flower would be lit, while the sides would be darker, don't you think it would look a bit more put together? maybe i'd increase contrast a bit as well, just play around with some editing. it looks a bit too flat the way it is now, so playing with light and contrast would give the photo more depth and interest and also would help the viewrs to focus on the most important here - the red rose.
amazing though that you took it with powershot:) i read in your profile that you'd love to learn photography, i am sure you'll do very good. good luck! just don't stop trying! |

Seeking Treasuresby pedrobopComment by MinsoPhoto: First Impression: Is that it seems oddly framed. It feels to me as though there are 3, or at least 2 main subjects competing for my attention.
Composition: As stated it seems to have competing focal points, perhaps lowering the f-stop to throw focus on just one area and blur the rest may suit this shot better. I also do not care for the crop on the bottom right. Maybe leave more of the subject in or none of it.
Lighting: Seems pretty decent. Perhaps a bit more diffused light would soften the slight glare on the right side.
For the Challenge: I think this meets the challenge well. It is a macro shot and It isn̢۪t easy to tell what it is of so great job there. It finished probably right around where it should, I think most voters thought it was a good shot but just lacked a wow factor. It just wasn̢۪t memorable. If I had voted on this I would likely have voted it a 5 or 6.
Overall this shot was done ok and has some good and bad technical issues. Keep up the work and keep experimenting and have fun.

As for shadows...I stood on my roof and had my camera tied to the end of a broom which I held out over the scene below.
