VisitingII.JPGby sonniejakeComment by MelonMusketeer: It's good that you have photoshop. For B&W conversion with basic editing, try dropping saturation to zero, then moving the color sliders and watch how the image changes. It's like using strong filters when shooting B&W film, and can make a huge difference in the way the image looks.
The centered composition, straight lines and being able to see the trees outside the window are strong points in this shot. |

Roundby sonniejakeComment by vawendy: I actually found this very interesting and gave it a 6. Although I wouldn't have guessed it was a mortuary! I liked the lines and the squares -- interesting geometry. |

Roundby sonniejakeComment by Dr.Confuser: I like the abstract nature of this, the mix of shapes, the contrast. It won't appeal to all tastes, but it appeals to me. |

Roundby sonniejakeComment by Paul: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: Interesting choice of subject and one the benefits from some strong geometric elements. This strikes me as having quite difficult ambient light to shoot with, but I think you've got it just right. I like the muted colour palette too.
Critical stuff: The intrinsic interest level in the scene makes it all to easy for you to hit the interest ceiling pretty quickly.
Overall: Although you've made a good job of capturing this scene - in the end I'm not sure that's enough to make you entry truly compelling. |

Roundby sonniejakeComment by Ja-9: IMO you have the start of a great picture...but it needs to be in super sharp focus for me |

Watching Over Your Loved Onesby sonniejakeComment by colorcarnival: Good perspective and I like that the background is OOF. For fun, you ought to go back and take this shot so that only the extended hand on the left is in focus, and have everything else OOF. Could be interesting! |

Watching Over Your Loved Onesby sonniejakeComment by RamblinR: I'm not a big fan of direct statue pictures don't mind if they are used as part of composing a bigger picture. For example... maybe the same statue with a person kneeling at the bottom of it shot with the camera on the ground catching the person praying and the statue up higher (hope you get what I mean). Spend a little more time composing your shot and get creative. |
