A good idea for this challenge!
1st Impressions, the lighting is very strong in this and has blown out several areas in the shoes, a less bright light or hanging something over the light would have diffused the light enough to give it a smoother glow versus a full blown spotlight. The heel on the mans shoes is almost green from the light adn there are various blown out areas on the womans shoe. In post processing for the problem lighting, you could have gone with a touch of the exposure and contrast, brightness, and or shadow highlight.
The table seems tilted which you could straighten out. The edge of the table and your background is very prominent which in affect cuts your shot into two halves, having the backdrop on the table would have eliminated this problem. Then of course your back drop is a little wrinkled, which again is a slight problem.
One tip for your backdrop, is some large stones laid at teh bottom of your sheet, this will pull it taut so it is less wrinkled. Helpers are always good if you can get them to sit still long enough, they can sit on the back drop pulling it taut. Candy always works well as bribes!
A closer crop could have helped here too, I usually make a tube out of my hand and look through it just to see if it makes a difference being cropped.
