Back to Schoolby hortopthComment by BobsterLobster: My favourite shot this challenge. Great use of motion blur. Nice range of tones, looks great in b&w. I like his expression. Effective cropping and composition. I would have prefered a shutter speed just a tad faster though, so the face would be sharper while leaving the hand blurred. 8 |

Many people just shoot from their own height, which takes away from a child portrait, IMO. You did a great jog of getting at his level, and the portrait reflects 'his world' rather than him from an adult's perspective. A subtle change in technique that drastically changes the quality of a child's portrait! I don't know how difficult it would be to do in this setting, but a little more light on his eyes would give this some WOW factor. I love the look of concentration on his face, and I like the motion blur of his hand. As a result of getting the hand motion, you also got a little blur in his hair... very difficult to control, especially with small children as your subject (I have three boys 1, 3, and 5 years old). Nice shot and good luck in the challenge!
