Bootlaceby gminkComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Nice and sharp, the off-centred composition works, good textures, and the colours are poppy. Personally I wouldn't have told voters what the item was - guessing what something is part of the fun. Glad to see you took care to get the wb correct, a lot of people are content to let the camera's auto wb do all the work.
However I think your exposure time was a little too long, and without something to diffuse the glare from any kind of bulb, you're going to get some glare as you can see in the highlights. f.22 seems a little much, as does ISO 800; a tiny aperture and a high ISO, combined with a long exposure time..why? ISO 100, f.5.6 and 1/10th probably would have been more than adequate and helped kill those glarey bands of highlight.
Hope this helps

In English....if you want to get a nice crisp shot esp while riding in the backseat of a car, you need to use a much faster shutter. If you're going for a zoomblur through the windshield, then you need a tripod to stabilize your camera, and you need to use a long exposure get the desired effect. If you're going for something like this, that is: Read Eric's notes, this isn't as difficult as it looks. Look too at his composition to see why he ribboned twice with basically the same image!

Up the riverby gminkComment by GeorgesBogaert: I don't know why you included that big concrete block in the front. The colors are good on the right side of the image but it misses some vibrance in the back. Using a polarization filter would help with the reflections on the water. An 8 from me |

Down then upby gminkComment by sidpixel: *Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*
An interesting approach that fails to meet the challenge.
I like your thinking and creative attempt to come at the challenge in an original way but I don't think you have managed to pull it off. The subject does not suggest upside down at all, it is what it is, simply water falling and forced back up again, that is not upside down.
I see you have gone to your smallest aperture and lowest ISO to get the slowest shutter speed possible which has all worked quite well, you have plenty of motion blur in the main flow and motion detail of individual drops from their upwards trajectory.
I like your image but unfortunately the wrong image for the wrong challenge, Sid |
