Flock of starlingsby gminkComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
Congratulations on the high score and placing Gaylord, having briefly looked at your profile, long overdue I would say. As your commenters have already stated this is a lovely image, you started off with a great composition and what a lucky moment for the starlings to add the finishing touch, hope you paid them well! The lighting is lovely the sun defining the rails and glowing on the fog adds a surreal quality. Beautifully done, I hope its hanging on your wall... |

Mist at sundownby gminkComment by sidpixel: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge
This looks like an interesting scene caught during the ‘golden hour’ with a lovely sunset. Unfortunately, this is a classic example of the light controlling the exposure and underexposing important detail in your foreground. Some plus exposure compensation, at least a stop, would have rescued the foreground but at the expense of the sky but you could have merged the two together in PS to get the best of both exposures. Alternatively, if you only have the one exposure you can still do the same with two versions at different exposures within PS. Or you could select the foreground and dodge it back to lighten it up. Whichever method you choose to use the end result you need to aim for is more detail in the foreground, it is just too dark.
Thank you for your entry Gaylord. |

Wheels go aroundby gminkComment by Jules1x: Greetings Gaylord from the Critique Club.
Better late than never...
First impressions - cool wheels that you found. All the bright colors are nice, but I wonder with the busy scene what a conversion to black and white might have done? And I have to agree with the commenter who wanted those faces to be more in focus. The challenge was wheels, so having the faces instead of wheels in focus may not have really made a difference, but my eyes kept being drawn back to the people and yet I couldn't really distinguish features.
I would have been curious to see other shots you got - were there other angles that captures the wheels where the wheels were more isolated or had a cleaner background?
All in all I'm a big fan of creativity with a challenge and finding interesting/unique ways to photograph for a challenge, so kudos for having the camera at the right time and for taking the shot and entering.
