Dont like your blur technique especially around the edges of the dog.

I can see that you've made an effort here, and that is commendable (it means your trying to learn!)

That said, you have a nice conversion here with good contrast, and the puppy seems well-focused. However, its also obvious that you've used a blur tool to make everything besides the dog OOF. It can work well to bring attention to your subject, but ONLY if it is done very subtly.

What works better is to adjust your camera's aperture setting to a low number & use a shallow depth of field when taking the picture. Your results will appear much more natural, and will score considerably better.

The blur is completely unnatural, and kills this photo.

Did you say Yanko's ribbon winning photo??? You might have had a front pager too with this one :) Somehow I missed these adorable Japanese costumed people. I think I was focusing too much on that one little girl!

This is awesome!!! I had so much fun! I still keep thinking about how much fun it was and how much I enjoyed my new friends :)

Nice shot - really doesn't look like a homerun - more like a basehit to right...

Greetings from the Critique Club

Ha Ha. All it needs is a rocking chair on the front porch! And maybee a dawg...

Technically, this is nicely exposed with the reds and weathered grays good foils for each other. Nice subdued shadows make the colors glow. As one of your commentors mentioned, the trees are a bit green, but what the heck, it's spring.

Composition: Well that half-a-tree on the right side bothers me a bit. The image could well stand some closer cropping on the right side and on the bottom, thus removing that half-a-tree (which is anachronistic anyhow) and perhaps giving the image more pop factor. Try it and see what you think.

Overall, I think it was a good find and you handled it nicely.

You're new to DPC so let me be among the first to welcome you to the site. I hope you have fun here and I'll look forward to seeing more of your work.

Is this Kyle Russell? Despite Nebraska having a shut out against Augi I'm sure I'll be seeing your Longhorns again at the CWS here in Omaha. Hopefully along with my Chreighton Blue Jays. Very much doubt Big Red will make it. Now for the photograph. Like the composition with the leading line of the batter, like the runner coming in as well. Good shutter speed, sharp focus and great color. Good luck on this submission, and bring your camera to Omaha in June. Lots of great shooting at the Blatt.
