Future is bright on Hope Alleyby
NOO7Comment by Brad: Greetings from the Critique Club
This was a difficult challenge due to it's subjective nature.
So many had a pre-conceived idea that the challenge images needed to be in black & white, yet you proved that wasn't the case, scoring not too far behind the sneaky Admins using one of Henri Cartier-Bresson's own shots (was in 52nd place) in the challenge.
Composition:
Through a good use of color and leading lines, your composition pulls the eye right to the main focal point - The glow, with the girl walking towards it.
Lighting:
The lighting in this absolutely makes the shot in my opinion - well done, and good eye seeing this and making good use of natural light.
Post-Processing:
You have a good handle on your post-processing in this picture. The colors feel natural, yet ethereal, especially with the saturation levels falling off towards the edges of the image. The sharpness is good and overall the image is not over processed nor over saturated. The simple border applied was complimentary to the shot and the color chosen feels right with the overall look.
Suggestions/Improvements:
I think after studying this for a while, I have found little to suggest in ways to improve this image. One possibility would have been to burn in some of the blown-out areas just to the left of the lattice, but then again, there may have been no info in it to burn and would have looked worse.
I hope this was useful to you, and please feel free to contact me via PM if you have any questions regarding this critique or anything else relating to the site in general.
Regards,
Brad
