The white shirt has been lightened / dodged. It's pretty subtle but it adds to the fact that the white balance is off. Everything is a tad too blue. He is also OOF as mentioned in prior comments.

There are pleasing colors, and a potentially interesting scene, but what is your subject? Judging by your focal point, it's a lily pad. Viewers focus upon what is in the sharpest focus, so in this case, a lily pad. Why is that important, did you want to have your boatman more blurred and going off into the distance? What is it you want us to look at? To me, this is the most critical thing to consider. There are great elements here, but it's confusing what you want us to look at, what your message is. Are we looking at a lone boatman going into the swamp? Are we looking at a scene that emphasizes the boatman or the environment? What is the narrative you are trying to tell on this shot? Colors etc are nice, but your direction is lost, IMO.

The light is beautiful.

It's your highest score so far.

Your camera focused on the lotus blossom, perhaps because it's the brightest spot.

Some landscape photographers would've taken up to 10 exposures (the fisherman would've had to've held quite still for a few minutes) so they could do focus-stacking so that every single little detail would be in sharp focus. And then probably used HDR on it to make things equally bright.

I like your shot better the way it is, but I am not a landscape photographer. You might try bracketing your shots just to find out how it looks with different exposures, like the f2.0 you used, also f5.6, also f8. see what happens to the ISO, see what happens to the noise. see what happens to the contrast. I often do that & it's very informative & interesting.

The thing that I don't much like about your shot is it's not clear what you were looking for. Were you after the light? the fisherman? the lotus blossoms? the reflecting water?

Keep on clickin', it's the best thing. And fun.

I like the location and the dawn colors are lovely. It is also an unusual subject. But between the technical difficulties, and this being entered against everyone else's "best" shot, I feel it got lost in the shuffle.

Can I just say, that you enter in FS rather than other challenges and make your cause harder.
Just a thought. 😀

Sad to say it but I agree with M on all points..
It's all very dull and uninteresting really.
Hope you don't feel I'm being mean just cos I am..

Hi, Jamie,
It is a nice light and colors but the images suffers from a number of issues:
1. the horizon looks tilted
2. the fisherman is not sharp
3. the composition is awkward - I would put the fisherman either on left bottom as per rule of thirds or dead in the center going for a symmetrical reflection
4. there are a lot of distractions that don't add to the scene like out of focus plant in the foreground

I think that with a better crop and editing it would have done better.

I still gave it a 6. Minus the line, it is a beautiful portrait.

I didn't think my photo was still entered. Every time I uploaded it, this green line appeared...so I deleted my entry...apparently it didn't delete like I thought. The file on my end isn't corrupted so I don't understand what is going on except that it made my score extremely low lol
