The direct flash kills the texture, and there is no subject or focus point of this picture. The corners are oof because of the shallow dof which means you turned the camera? It looks strange to me because of that. I'm not one to say that simply rotating the camera to get a diagonal results in dnmc, but the effect is just not pleasing to me in this picture. Rule of Thirds means that the subject is on one of the prime areas of the photo. The prime areas as defined by the rule of thirds are the intersecting points created by imaginary lines that are drawn both horizontally and vertically to split the photo into thirds. My appologies if you already understand that concept, and I'm completely missing your point....

Good diagonals. To add interest maybe the addition of a subject of some sort would help.
