Composition is very cramped. Distracting object in the background. Would work better as a horizontal shot with breathing room for the apple slices.

Is there any way to see how much datail in a subject through the view finder. also how dose one get more detail? Do I need a better camera? lens?

The image has some nice patterns and elements but I think it would be better if you had some more details in the plant to give the image some more texture.
