Frozen Fallsby EssAreDubyaComment by spiritualspatula: Hello from the Critique Club,
The first thing I notice about your photo is the right side of the frame. This is largely because of the golden reflections in the water, which are far more vibrant than the majority of the frame. I enjoy how the line of the waterfall leads the eye upwards towards the âColdâ element of your photo, serving as a nice segue for the viewer. But upon reaching this point, there isnât a whole lot of interest here. The lighting on the waterfall is very pleasing, but the patchy light on the ice and remainder of the waterfall do not do it any favors. The large rock chunks and stray branch also do not seem to add much to the photo. Bringing a greater emphasis to the waterfall and ice would have benefited things, though I canât say it was feasible having not seen the location. Perhaps lowering the point of view and rotating the perspective to the right would have cut out this element to the left and kept the viewer more focused on things. It would also increase the length of the waterfall as a leading line, pulling the viewer across the photo more fully.
You may also have considered shooting this during a different time of day when there was not the patchy lighting.
