Critique club

Hi my name is Kari from the critique club

First impression
What a bright and vivacious shot.

Subject
This definately meets the challenge, even I have heard of this song.

Compositon
This is the area I think that could really do with some improvement. The angle that the shot is taken is not that interesting- from the perspective that if taken from the front there would be faces and more to keep the interest of the viewer. I know that this may not have been possible - so this is well done with the shot you have taken.

Also, this is a large group of people if you had been able to alter the DOF to focus on just one or two this may also have helped the viewer to focus in on the shot.

Technicals
I think that working the DOF may have helped .. This shot is also quite dark - by altering the brightness up slightly this may have given a less dark impression - another way is by working the curves to slightly being up the lightness in the shot.

Also, since they are obviously playing that would account for the slightly soft focus which is fine.

Improving the score
Above there are a number of suggestions .. even have a go with the orginal shot through the editing that you are able to do to achieve some of these changes ... and see how that makes the shot improve.

Final words[\b]
I like what you were trying to achieve and think that you were most the way there. Good work.

Any questions on the critique feel free to PM me.

Regards

Kari

The Marching Abominables! I was hoping to get a similar shot (same song) that same day, but ended up with something else. This shot is a little dark; and while it's a great hat, a different crop might have worked better.

What an interesting looking event. Looks like a great time! Your shot here is a touch out of focus and is very busy. You may have had better luck moving around and trying to isolate 2 or 3 of the performers. It's also a very hard time of day to shoot with the lighting so strong. Too much contrast.

Hey there from the Critique Club

Again I plead, always try to include some info about the shot in the Photographer's Comments section. It really helps out when we know what the photographer was thinking and what equipment/lighting/etc. were used, especially when you request a critique.

Camera Work/Technical: Nice exposure and great depth of field use, ensuring that everything in the frame was focused. Your coloring is very nice and the WB seems to be right on target.

Lighting: I think that you picked the right time of day for this shot, but the lighting looks just a bit flat. While the building contrasts nicely with the sky, the building itself looks like it could use some contrast of its own. A slight s-curve adjustment in curves should remedy this easily.

Composition/Content: I like the use of a centered composition here. It breaks the "rules" of photography and still yields a very nice photograph. I'd like to see a bit more of the building's bottom, perhaps without chopping off the window that's in the frame. The steeple serves nicely to carry the viewer up and into the frame.

My Opinion: This one fits into the challenge nicely, but is lacking that unique feature that distinguishes it from the rest of the entries. Perhaps a slightly different vantage point or m a touch more contrast, but something is just slightly lacking.
