for Teresaby MadukesComment by bubeltrubel: this is really a nice (family-)portrait. Like it because there is so much naturalness. Especially I love the little dog; he looks like he's laughing. |

I finally see sunby MadukesComment by J-Me: I'm so sorry that you got no comments to explain anything to you. It must have been a very frustrating and lackluster challenge for you to sit through. Don't worry...I'm not much above you in this challenge LOL.
You know what? IF you had a program like Topaz Adjust or Photomatix or some sort of tone mapping/HDR program, this shot likely would have done very well! It's got some GREAT elements in there that, brought out, would have really been a very interesting shot! The only real difference between your shot here and some of the others that are of similar content is that they have and know how to use the editing programs. In all reality, if you go and look at some of the upper scoring shots, you'll find that they often put in "outtake shots" and that can show you how their editing has improved their shots and the difference editing can make. Yes, we need decent photos to work with to begin with but often, it's got a lot to do with knowing how to edit well. That's what I'm learning and I'm trying to experiment with editing more and more. The masters in editing are the ones who are 2 steps ahead.
I know that the programs are expensive...to expensive for most of us but, if you can get someone to share them with you...well...you get my drift. :) |

Rain outside My windowby MadukesComment by Paul: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: I think you have to offer something pretty close to your vision here, it does seem to be well executed. You have managed to make me most curious about the landscape beyond - it actually looks like a poppy field!
Critical stuff: I'm afraid I'm not a fan of this image - I find it to be a little drab, everything seems to be choked back in an effort to resist any possibility that the image might delight.
Overall: A strange one to be sure, I can see what you've gone for - it's just not an image I'm responding well to. |

Rain outside My windowby MadukesComment by littlegett: I am sure many people will score this lower. Though I scored it higher. The clarity of the window steam/moisture is there. The colours could pop a bit more but there is really something familiar about this. Many days I suppose in Washington State I looked at the rain outside my window. |
