Spring Beauty Wildflowersby kandyjComment by dsidwell: One of my favorite flowers! They sure race the melting snow, don't they. I don't think people realize just how tiny these are. Did you use a macro lens? The emotion here is soft and full of wonder, and you've captured the random patterns of these wildflowers very effectively. The delicate and gentle light on these blooms is an accomplishment unto itself. Very nicely done. 10 |

Spring Beauty Wildflowersby kandyjComment by ChrisW123: Nice I really like the texture of that flower. The pedals look like wax almost. Maybe should have plucked the other one before taking the shot maybe. |

Rosesby kandyjComment by jmsetzler: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Kandyj...
These roses are beautiful. I seem to like the way the smaller one on the right is 'looking' up to the larger rose. It looks a bit like some type of parent/child relationship in this photo.
Photographing flowers is something that I'm not very experiences with at this point. I have been doing some recently and I have learned a few techniques that seem to help create some higher level of impact in the photos.
Taking the photo outside is a great idea because your lighting will be natural and the issues of color cast and white balance will not play a large role in the photo. I made THIS PHOTO over the weekend outside on my back porch. I used a piece of black posterboard behind the flower to get the dark background. I angled the posterboard in such a way that it would be 'shadowed' to get the nice dark effect. You can try things like this with your roses also... The wind can be a problem, so it may be a good idea to look for opportunities to avoid that.
Another important element, in my opinion, is a tripod. I always use my tripod for photos like this and let my timer take the photo to minimize camera shake. That also frees my hands to hold the posterboard behind the scene :)
Keep up the good work :)

Pi and Some More Piby kandyjComment by justine: CC Hello kandyj
Fits The Challenge-Yes
Composition-Good
Background-Good
My Opinion-I don't really need to point out the gainy look of this shot. I'm sure you got that point, but I will say like several that I kind of like that here. It's adding to the over all texture of the shot. I do think the shot is dark and needed to adjusted with levels. I am aware that most stairs aren't lit well, indoors. Still you did a great job finding the symbol PI-! Amazing find!! Over all this is good, it's good to look at. Yeah for you.

Rosesby kandyjComment by loz1: Where I work, I see a lot of different images of roses. Generally they are actually drawings, but the colors and the actual flowers never look this nice :) |
