Greetings from the Critique Club

Well, Tofarley, it looks as if this is your week to be Critiqued by SFAlice. I see I just did your nice Candlelight Romance entry.

This one is a different mood entirely. It's humerous and technically good. (The more I see of the S2 IS at work, the more I like it.) Composition is good.

The voters generally liked it and you received a pretty good score. I guess your very nice image just didn't have that extra something that voters tend to reward so highly.

I wish you continued enjoyment in your DPC experience.

And I do hope you find our comments helpful.

Greetings from the Critique Club

I'm pleased to have the chance to look at this nice image done with the IS Canon S2. The contrast between the good looking wood and the red colors in the composition work well to bring this all together. I like the draping of the red fabric from left to right very much. I do wonder if the cropping is just a bit tight on the right side. That last candle looks pretty close to the frame edge. But that's subjective, of course.

Because the image is a bit soft and the ISO is quite high at 400, I expect this was hand-held. I find that when I'm using a small camera and don't want to attach it to a tripod I can sometimes get a pretty good exposure by balancing the camera on a book or two. Just a thought.

I hope you are enjoying DPC. I'll look forward to seeing more of your images.

very nice idea. maybe could have used a more dramatic pose, like bending over to grab one of those beers, or to get something out of the back of the fridge, but, then again, at that time of night, there is usually that sense of uncertainty, wanting something, but not knowing just what. great work! love the lighting--that is tops. great perspective, as well.

this image would have have been multitudes better if you had used a light source to "paint" in some details on the red dress(?) nightgown(?) whatever it is - so we could tell what it was. This wasn't a single light source challenge, and the modd would have remained strong with the candles on the hardwood floor.

Love this! The candles are hot but it really adds to it and helps the overall effect of the image. Not quite sure about the one tall red one but it really doesn't hurt the overall image. There is just enough light on the clothing to tell what it is but not too much to make it distracting. Good luck.
