A Dark Reflective Mood.

Comment by shalrath:
Cool idea but I think a LOT more contrast (IMHO really bumping up the highlights) would have made this a great shot. You sort of miss the intensity of the mood you were trying to capture.

I once got a similar set of circles and curved shapes by shooting directly down the mount of a plastic water bottle. Nice lighting for most of the image. Having the center circle darker would have been interesting, although potentially very difficult to achieve (depending on what you had to work with).

Hi. I'm responding to your thread asking for comments. I would've voted this a 4. To me, that means you met the challenge but not in a very interesting or well-executed way.

This seems like a random purple thing stuck into unrelated other things. Why is that there? How does it add to the composition? I can't see how it does, so there's no impact other than thinking "well, that's random." Note that this is before I even get to the technicals.

Technical perfection can add to a well-designed image, but it can't rescue a poor idea. But in this case, the technicals aren't great, either. The focus seems random and the red tomato up top draws me away from the supposed subject, the candy bar.

Looking through your other entries, you seem to be new at trying artsy shots and experimenting with different ideas. That's terrific! Continue to play with the camera, explore macros, telephotos, portraits, etc. And keep being creative.

But as you do that, always think "what story am I trying to convey." That's how you'll produce images that blow people away. Not every image has a story (and many high-scoring images here, including some of mine really have no emotional connection), but the very best ones do.

As you are asking. There are to many distracting things in this picture IMHO - The purple is not the color here, maybe green! The salad is not fresh and interesting, the focus is not on the purple thing you got there and to be honest there is nothing interesting about this picture IMHO again :o)

But you can look at it like this. You did not like my picture because it was to purple (your vote probably matches that disliking :o) and I don´t like your picture because of the things stated above BUT we are all here to learn and this is something we both learn from.

My advise would be to have less distracting things in your image and focus on the main subject. Good luck!!

I personally like the idea but I'd have to say that its quite hard to execute. Yeah the focus is a little off but even if that was corrected it might be a tough sell. Moving the wrapper to a more prominent location in the scene would help I think as would removing the red items as suggested previously.

Different isn't a bad idea but don't be surprised if you get dinged for it. Also don't be surprised when people marvel at your ingenuity. :)
