excellent shot... I love postcard scenes that don't have the strong 'cheezy touristy' factor to them. The subdued color on this one nicely enhances the 'old' theme... excellent work :) - setzler

Text is a little hard to read. Overall picture would have been better with a blue sky or being that it is Michigan should i say a sky that is not so white... Good job.

I don't get if the photo was taken in 1949 or the lighthouse was built then. I really like the mood it sets, and the red at the top coordinating visually with the red at the bottom. The muted colors work well for this image.

Nice perspective, B%W would have done better here considering the lighting.

Only minor tweak I'd do is to rotate slightly CCW so the main dark/light boundary at the top right is more horizontal -- I don't think it would affect her pose adversely.

I love the shot, but it would have had much more impact for me if it had been cropped below the light that is just right of center in the top area (I cropped right at the light horizontal line that I see there below the light)- I find that whole top area to be very distracting. However, when I cropped it, I loved the way her face looks against the neg spc area with the small lights. Can't figure out her hair - almost looks like glitter or something on it.

The bright area in the upper right is a bit out of place. I tried this with a crop along that horizontal line that seperates the dark background from the light background, and I think it still works nicely, and also brings the attention down to her pretty face. Your focus and clarity are good, and the angle is nice as well. I like the candles in the background. Great shot. Good luck in the challenge.

You have nice lighting and sharp focus on a wonderful subject. The bright spots (candles) distract from the subject, I think more so because they are not defined in this case?

Composition -- I think the composition of this picture is very strong. It is balanced and fills the frame nicely. The choice of subject was well done, as well. I like the angle or perspective on this. It is much stronger this way than straight on. A very effective use of simplicity.

Technique -- You have done a remarkable job at not blowing the whites out. Anytime I try to do such, I end up with these really bright patches that blind my viewers! The focus is good in that the viewer can read all fo the words on the cards, though there are a couple of spots that are slightly fuzzy (that may be my monitor though). It is a very clean and crisp picture. Good use of contrasting colors and diagonal lines. The only suggestion I can make would be to try to shoot it with absolutely NO shadow, or a shadow completely around the cards, as if they were suspended or floating.

Overall Effect -- I like the simplicity of this shot. you have done well at meeeting the challenge in an effective and creative way. Good work.
