For starters I just don't see this fitting this challenge. Bark although gray usually isn't something I would call light unless it is a white birch tree.

Now as for the photo itself I would say you needed a little more dof there just wasn't enough of it in good focus to make it interesting. The concept and composition here are good just needed more focus to it.
