Followup comment after reading your "photographer's notes"...

I suspected the 'noise' I saw was from USM, and your notes indicate you used it. You've got to be really careful around here with USM to make sure you don't make edges glow, or else people like me get cranky. :)

Whenever I apply USM (and I tend to only use it on one out of four photos) I always preview at around 400-600 percent zoom, on a very high contrast edge (where one color shifts abruptly to another one) like the yellow edges of your photo. That's where you'll see the 'glow' first, and you'll be best off to back off the USM a smidge when it shows up.

Your photo was just EVER SO SLIGHTLY over sharpened, but eagle eyed sharpening police like me look out for that stuff. :)

Congrats on your personal best. :) Hope to see more of your stuff in 2006.

Okay- not totally sure what post processing you used. On my monitor, the snow is coming out too grey to be appealing. I'd suggest calibrating your monitor if you see the snow as white. If this was the effect you were going for, then it just doesn't hit me quite right. I like the composition a good bit, but there's not enough contrast in the shot. 6

I like this, but I think it's missing a focal point. It would be great if there were a single bird, or animal or a bare tree in the background to draw your eye to it. I might do a single hue adjustment and "unblack" the snow to make it whiter.

I don't know what it is and it doesn't matter. The cleanlinesss and smooth colours just appeal

This is interesting and certainaly colorful, though I find myself more attracted to the deeper, richer colors than the lighter shades like this one.

This photo suffers from technical defects in PP or JPEG compression or something, especially on the edges of the subject where the yellow abruptly changes to blue.

I like the shadows and shapes. Might go higher on the yellow sat and decrease the blue.

Very interesting subject here. IMHO taking the shot from further back to include more sky would have added some contrst and balance to the shot overall. Just my humble opinion, nice shot nonetheless
