Nice idea. The slight crookedness of the image bothers me. Also, it seems to be underexposed rather than low key (My opinion)

I think the shallow DOF works fine and perhaps if the front stem had been the key focal plane it would have helped the overall presentation?

Thanks! The surface is actually marble so I was trying to avoid getting too much of the grain/pattern. I vacillated between focusing on the front of the first apple or in between the two middle apples. In the end, I went for the spot behind the front stem. The shallow DOF helped with the pattern on the counter.

Most of my photography experience was as a school photo editor doing sports or doing snapshots while in the military. The only "studio" shooting I did was animal portraits. I've been playing with cameras since 1959 (a Kodak Holiday Brownie) then a Graflex Jet 35 mm (1962) Used that until I got my first digital camera. The one I'm using now i've had about 15 years. There were, of course, 4x5 cameras and 120 roll cameras along them way.

Again, thanks for the feedback. It's the sort of thing I need.

Yes, I like this one better than the first. Interesting blend of lines, colors and light. Kinda looks like rows of apartment buildings at night. Keep experimenting!

Very interesting pattern. It reminds me of the overlapping scales of fish and butterflies, in macro. I'm especially drawn to the transition of blue to orange, or vice versa.
