Joe's Duckyby overcameComment by rex: *Critique Club*
Seems out of focus in the areas that should be in focus. Looks as if you focused on the tail. A better DOF would put everything in good focus for you. The white spots in the water toward the bottom are very distracting to me. Possibly they are reflections from your lights. The reflection of the duck is kinda nice and could be improved if it stood out more. The tan piece in the background really takes a lot away from the photo also. I think if you would have just put the grapes in the water it would improve this shot. Also I would have cropped a little more off the right of the shot. You haven't put your edits or any comments in the "Photographer's Comments" section so I can't tell what edits you have already done. Overall you have done an ok job but this was a very hard challenge IMO with all the particulars involved in it.
I see you are new to DPC. Welcome and remember it is very helpful to read all the tutorials and to ask questions if you need assistance. The tutorials are very helpful. The one regarding DOF and how to get a longer DOF is here:

Comfy Ryderby overcameComment by Neuferland: Nice shot, looks like the horse I ride once a week.
I'm a sucker for horse shots to start with so you get points there but this is just another horse shot, nothing really makes it stand out for me. A lovely animal, nice effects on the background and such but just nothing to really make it pop or jump out for me. Perhaps if the horse was cleaned up just a bit (I do know how they love to roll in the mud) and if the horse was looking at you? A 7 |

Comfy Ryderby overcameComment by moodville: I'm not sure if it is just the softness and low contrast but it almost looks like a filter has been added to the image. It's a fairly static image but there is something about it that is quite attractive. It has a slight fantastical feel to it even if the horse doesnt look like the perfect specimen. I like it. |
