I made it out of plastic. The base screws on top of the gas tank cap (where the existing screws are). A ball head is screwed on top of the mount to support the camera. Check out a picture here.

The camera sits pretty high off the tank. It had to be that high to see over the handle bars. I sometimes hit the top of the camera with my chin while riding.

I tooka similar picture quite awhile back and wonder what you created your "mount" with?

The battery in the bike died so I had to push start it... thus the One in the morning indication was really one in the afternoon!

Greetings from the Critique Club.
Hello Garret, I̢۪m Alan.

Although not a original idea, I can̢۪t remember it being done on a motorcycle, somewhat daring if you ask me : ). Score wise, any time you get into the 6̢۪s you have done well, very well. Things to maybe look for if you attempt again. It looks to me like your camera exposed for the shade, hence the over exposed foreground, it also looks like you pushed the contrast forcing the highlights even more. I agree more blur would help, but it̢۪s easy to see your limiting factors. You do have a motorcycle, and a makeshift pod, who knows someday might find you on a recently paved road providing more options. All in all a good score, for a very good photo, and I will keep my eye out for future attempts..

Alan

Comment by George:
I do agree on the motion blur thing, this shot is just begging for some. Maybe if you'd kept the slower shutter and kept clicking you would've gotten at least one no-shake-but-plenty-of-motion shot. Anyway, good DOF and color... though a bit overexposed in some areas.

Title is well conceived.
This is like watching mounted video cameras; the viewer must turn their head to match the horizon for the brain to make sense of what it sees. That's why we ride with our eyes parallel to the ground. I'm not sure your image would have as much impact if aligned the way we ride, especially among non-riders, but I just can't look at this comfortably. It looks more about the bike and less about why we ride.

The lean adds so much more to this shot. Well taken.

Love this perspective and as a biker myself can appreciate the feeling that goes with it. Looking at the speedometer I see you were going pretty slow though but I guess that was because you had to take the photo with one hand and control the bike with your other hand at the same time. 7

Nice perspective. Great feel of motion and feel of the lean into the curve.
