Hmm, not sure what you're after as far as how to improve the photo. I think it's a great capture. I love how you've caught him in mid jump. I would not try a much closer crop at all, I think having the people in the background add some context to the shot, the viewer can feel and understand that it is not just a photo of a boy playing, but an actual 'event'. Maybe just enough to get rid of the very small portion of person along the right edge. I would probably play with levels (or whatever your preferred color management techniques) and try to make the colors pop just a little more. I would probably clone out the little red thing in the background behind the boys right arm too.

Fantastic shot, simply beautiful. I love the way you've split it into solid colours at top & bottom to fram her face. Very cute how she's holding the umbrella too. This definitely belongs on the family room wall! Unfortunately, I see no rain, so am scoring this a 4, sorry. :-(
