Embers fell as the saucer descended on my evening stroll through the parkby neverbeatenComment by neverbeaten: All right. Since there seems to have been mass confusion as to what the image really is...
I really was walking through the park in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, after dark with some friends. One of the parks that winds along the river. None of us had ever been to this particular park before. We turned a corner and there was this huge stainless steel park-type structure. It was shaped like a flying saucer with three support pilliars and some decorative metalwork coming up to it from the ground. It was illuminated with small blue and purple LEDs on the underside. There were also some recessed lights that were not turned on or burt out. It was part art part functional, serving as a large, tall gazebo over a water fountain. It was really random and surprised us all as it was so out of place and unexpected.
My camera (yes a crappy cheapo, I know) has a mode where it fires the flash but keeps the shutter open for night portraits. I used this mode, exposed the basic shape and form of it with the flash and then moved the camera to blur the lights. I think the results looked pretty cool, especially for a $130 camera (hey, it's pocketable!). |

Embers fell as the saucer descended on my evening stroll through the parkby neverbeatenComment by borison: Serendipity is a difficult concept to visualize. For me it means being at the right place, at the right time, and being lucky enough to capture something unique. Some of these entries are set up shots trying to illustrate that concept, and some record a serendipitous moment experienced by the photographer themselves. Can't really tell which one this is. It's an interesting image. But it's the title that ties it into the subject matter. If someone saw this image without that supporting information, they wouldn't think "serendipity". |
