IMG_1129by LoneRolfComment by snaffles: +1 on what Johanna says. The human eye instinctively looks for lightness at the top and darkness below. Remember these esp if you like to do land/seascapes. You may want to check out the work by Cuttooth. Mark ribbons in challenges with an almost annoying regularity :-) You could also try PMing him for more tips. |

The only issue is that the brightest area is at the very bottom, which is where your eye goes. I find that I have to force myself to explore the rest of the image. With the brighter portion at the top, the eyes naturally start there and work their way to the bottom.

IMG_1077by LoneRolfComment by tanguera: Beautiful colors and clarity. To my mind, this shot does not require much processing. I would crop out at least half of the bottom - the dark foreground is not very interesting at all.
Another option would be to lighten the foreground a bit, but I think that it would never be as interesting as the view of the river.
The other issue is the banding in the sky - that's a technical issue with your equipment, and can be fixed with processing. But that's more than a one-click operation which you will eventually learn to do :) |

IMG_1077by LoneRolfComment by bjoern: The blackish parts in the foreground don't really add much to the picture in my opinion. If you take a 3:2 crop instead of 4:3 you can cut off most of it, and also move the "horizon" out of the center by the same operation (I'm not against a centered horizon if it works well for a shot, but I think this one is better with the horizon (or the shore of the lake) a bit more down) . Otherwise - great colors, great mood. |
