Downtown Bollweevillby lizziekyserComment by HarveyG: That's just the weirdest statue and location I've seen ever, no accounting for some politicians taste. SUV's and gas guzzlers everywhere, not one economical car to be seen...and an American flag...LOL. |

Downtown Bollweevillby lizziekyserComment by CanonShooter: Not crazy about the hdr look of this. The halo around the statue, buildings, and traffic light is distracting. The exposure is just dark and muddy, the sky is just bands of tones. If it is hdr, it would be a DQ anyway. |

Downtown Bollweevillby lizziekyserComment by Damon: I think you tried to push the structure too far I can see banding in the clouds and it looks a bit over sharpened. Cool Fountain shot though |

Foutain for the Publicby lizziekyserComment by Bilberry: With a background as messy as this I would have spent some time moving about to find a better one. Another idea would be to throw the background out of focus by limiting the depth of field. A tall vertical format image might have improved things as well. |

Spring Butterflyby lizziekyserComment by MelonMusketeer: Hi Lizzie! It's too bad this one got DQ'd, since it's your first entry here at DPC. I am guessing that the date in your camera was not set, so the exif file shows a date different from the actual shooting date. It's a common mistake, so it's not a big deal. I think that probably over half of all the DPC'ers have at least one DQ.
About the photo, most of the photos of little critters that do well in the challenges are shot tight or cropped so that the critter is filling most of the frame, unless there is something else in the image that's supporting the focus on the critter. An example of that would be keeping part of a twig or flower that a butterfly or dragonfly is sitting on, as a "leading line" to give the image some dynamic impact.
Anyway, welcome to DPC. You got off to a rough start here, but hopefully you will stick around to learn more about photography, and to and meet some people here. The side challenges are great for that. |
