Very interesting image, I like your progression of geology from the rock to the pure elements.
Composition
The main problem with this photo is in the composition: it is too flat. I do like the progression from the larger rock background to the smaller rock, to the smaller elements. This progression is a benefit to this photo. However, every object is essentially in the same plane. A tighter angle with more texture on the rock holding the elements would have led to a more dynamic photo.
Technical
The lighting, while soft, is flat, leading to the compositional comment above. A second source of light would help to bring out the texture in the rock and add depth to the photo. The lighting then effectively places everything in the same plane.
Overall, it is interesting from the placement of the objects. It would be good to experiment with additional light sources and get in tighter with the shot, perhaps dropping the background out altogether to help isolate the stone itself. It definitely has promise and would be a good one to enter in a Free Study. |
