I think you picked a unique subject: herbivory, however, your composition is sore, I feel. I think a more striking connection needs to be made between the insect-eaten leaves and the thorns. Many probably gloss over the leaves and only see the thorns before moving on. One way to enhance the leaves is probably a shot from underneath, where the light is shining through the holes; while the thorned stem could be framed as some sort of leading element.
