Wow. My first entry in five years...I am overwhelmed
This guy is my friend, a gentleman and a gentle man, a bird photographer who gets me up early to go out shooting, often in the cold. And he is always wearing that toque.
His wife knit it for him over 40 years ago.
So when I set out to take his portrait, it had to be with that toque...

A concentrated image that seems to be a distillation of this man's determined nature. Looking straight into the camera, his glasses, which can hide person, here hides nothing. I like the plain-spoken rawness. The title seems to be a deliberate attempt at understatement, but it doesn't work - not at all a criticism. And I've learned that what I've always called a beanie also leads a hitherto unknown sophisticated existence. Fine portrait.
