Comment by nightfall:
a good start, but needs a few things. first, try lighting from the side to create shadows and bring out the texture more. second, you need to create a point of interest. try including another element in the picture as a focal point. a feather might work well. it's up to you.

Comment by balynch:
Not extremely original, but the focus and exposure are good. It appears this may have been taken through a pane of glass. A bit of a bump up on the contrast would improve the shadows in my opinion. *5* -balynch

Comment by karmat:
This has really good focus and color balance. It is lacking to me, somehow. Maybe if it had a really bright flower or other object in with the rocks, it would be more interesting to me. karmat

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

Did you take this on an overcast day? I think if the sun had been shining and throwing some shadows, the overall effect might have been better.

Comment by Jonniboy:
Good sharpness in the whole picture but really lacks a subject.

I am really attracted to the blues, greens and beiges here. It's a lovely wallpaper example. The lighting allows the colors to come forth with quiet elegance. 7 crisa58

Comment by LindaLee:
Texture - yes, but doesn't engage my interest - no focal point really.

Comment by Journey:
This would have been so much more interesting if you had placed a contrasting object over the pebbles: a basket, old shoe, whatever.
