Yardarmby dgodardComment by Luci11e: Greetings From the Critique Club
First Impressions:
Very nice shot - a little small maybe. I see that your photo is 640 x 425. They say, for these challenges you should always use the max that is allowed...."at least 160 pixels and no more than 800 on each side."
Technical (Comp, lighting, color, focus):
As FocusPoint mentioned your composition is good. Although a crop might have been nice just at the below where the poles go into the water....but maybe not, just depends on the mood you want to present
Challenge:
n/a
Artistic/Emotion:
artisticlly it's a nicely done piece; maybe could have even been better had you played with the colors and exposure a little to get an even better silhouette feel to it.
The scene certainly makes me want to be there.
Summary:
In summary? You have a VERY NICE shot of your local landmark. Between this shot and your first challenge entry I'm anxious to see what more you have in store for us! Keep 'em coming! |

Ommmmm...by dgodardComment by dgodard: Thank you so much for the critique. Had I allowed myself more time, i.e., been able to do a re-take after I saw the image in full size, I feel I could have produced a better photo. As it was, I had to work with what I had; however, my sister have discussed a re-do, as we both really like the pose and the mood, but want to make the suggested changes. This has really been a rewarding first experience with dpchallenge, and I look forward to more in the future. Thanks! |

An interesting pose, it works well within the challenge. I like the tonality as it reflects the mood, the BW conversion seems appropriate for the theme, although the black is a little too black for my taste as no details can be seen in it. The white highlight is slightly distracting, the more so as her gaze goes directly to it, and in turn so does the viewers. the lines in this picture are important, the off set between natural/bending and horizontal/vertical. it is therefore a pity that the floor-mat angle is not aligned with wall. All in all a very graceful capture and with a little bit of work (lighting/lines) would have been in the top10 imho. |
